Biography

Born:13 February 1933, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Real Name:Marilyn Pauline Novak
Nickname
The Lavender Girl
Spouse
Dr. Robert Malloy (12 March 1976 - present)
Richard Johnson (15 March 1965 - 23 April 1966) (divorced)
Facts:
-She was the daughter of a former teacher turned transit clerk and his wife, also a former teacher. Throughout elementary and high school, Kim did not get along well with teachers. She even admitted that she didn't like being told what to do and when to do it.
-Her first job, after high school, was modeling teen fashions for a local department store. Kim, later, won a scholarship in a modeling school and continued to model part time.
-Kim decided to go to Los Angeles and try her luck at modeling there. Ultimately, her modeling landed her an uncredited role in the RKO production of The French Line (1954).
-Later a talent agent arranged for a screen test with Columbia Pictures and won a small six month contract. In truth, some of the studio hierarchy thought that Kim was Columbia's answer to Marilyn Monroe.
-Kim, who was still going by her own name of Marilyn, was originally going to be called "Kit Marlowe". She wanted to at least keep her family name of Novak, so the young actress and studio personnel settled on Kim Novak.
-After taking some acting lessons, which the studio declined to pay for, Kim appeared in her first film opposite Fred MacMurray in Pushover (1954). Though her role as "Lona McLane" wasn't exactly a great one, it was her classic beauty that seemed to capture the eyes of the critics. Later that year, Kim appeared in the film, Phffft (1954) with Jack Lemmon and Judy Holliday.
-The film was Picnic (1955). Although Kim did a superb job of acting in the film as did her costars, the film did win two Oscars for editing and set decoration. Kim's next film was with United Artists on a loan out in the controversial Otto Preminger film The Man with the Golden Arm (1955). Her performance was flawless, but it was was Kim's beauty that carried the day.
-The film was a big hit. In 1957, Kim played "Linda English" in the hit movie Pal Joey (1957) with Frank Sinatra and Rita Hayworth. The film did very well at the box-office, but was condemned by the critics. Kim really didn't seem that interested in the role. She even said she couldn't stand people such as her character. That same year, Novak risked her career when she embarked upon an affair with singer/actor Sammy Davis Jr.. The interracial affair alarmed studio executives, most notably Harry Cohn, and they ended the relationship in January of the following year.
-In 1958, Kim appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's, now classic, Vertigo (1958) with Jimmy Stewart. This film's plot was one that thoroughly entertained the theater patrons wherever it played. The film was one in which Stewart's character, a detective, is hired to tail a friend's wife (Kim) and witnesses her suicide. In the end, Stewart finds that he has been duped in an elaborate scheme.
-By the early 1960s, Kim's star was beginning to fade, especially with the rise of new stars or stars that were remodeling their status within the film community. With a few more nondescript films between 1960 and 1964, she landed the role of "Mildred Rogers" in the remake of Of Human Bondage (1964). The film debuted to good reviews. While filming The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders (1965), she had a romance with co-star Richard Johnson, whom she married, but the marriage failed the following year.
-She arrived in Hollywood as The Lavendar Girl. When she became a star at Columbia Pictures, the studio had her blonde hair tinted with lavender highlights.
-Visited Sammy Davis Jr. in hospital shortly before his death.
-On July 24 2000, she watched her memento-filled house in Eagle Point, Oregon, go up in flames. A deputy fire marshal said that the blaze was probably the result of a tree that fell across an electrical power line. Included in the loss were scripts to some of her movies (Vertigo (1958) and Picnic (1955)), as well as her computer, which contained her long-gestating autobiography. Spared, however, were her menagerie of animals, including horses and llamas, as well as the star's husband of 24 years, veterinarian Bob Malloy.
-She retired from films in 1991

Biography

Born:13 September 1944, Weybridge, Surrey, England, UK
Real Name:Winnifred Jacqueline Fraser-Bisset
Facts:
-Her father, Max Fraser Bisset, was a doctor; her mother, Arlette Alexander, had been a lawyer in France before getting married.
-She was born in Weybridge, Surrey; her mother and brother had been evacuated there because of a wartime bombing in their village. Her father was working in a hospital in Iceland at the time.
-When Jacqueline was 15, her mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This required Jacqueline to take a great deal of responsibility for her mother's care. Her parents eventually divorced. (Jacqueline has never been married, and has no children.)
-At 16, Jacqueline was enrolled in the Lycée Français; the intention was to learn French before going to university. Instead of going to college, Jacqueline became interested in the cinema. In order to earn the money for acting lessons, she became a model.
-Jacqueline Bisset has been an international film star since the late 1960s. She received her first roles mainly because of her stunning beauty, but over time she has become a fine actress respected by fans and critics alike. Bisset has worked with such directors as John Huston, François Truffaut, George Cukor and Roman Polanski and co-starred with actors of the caliber of Anthony Quinn, Linda Hamilton, Paul Newman, Leelee Sobieski, Armand Assante and Candice Bergen.
-In 1967 Bisset gained her first critical attention in Two for the Road (1967), and in that same year appeared in the popular James Bond spoof Casino Royale (1967), playing Miss Goodthighs. In 1968 her career got a boost when Mia Farrow unexpectedly dropped out of the shooting of The Detective (1968); Farrow's marriage to co-star Frank Sinatra was on the rocks, and her role was eventually given to Bisset, who received special billing in the film's credits. In the following year she gained even more attention playing opposite Steve McQueen in the popular action film Bullitt (1968). In 1973 she became recognized in Europe as a serious actress when she played the lead in Truffaut's "Day for Night" (Nuit américaine, La (1973)). However, it would be several years before her talents would be taken seriously in the US.
-Jacqueline's stunning looks and figure made quite a splash in The Deep (1977). Her underwater swimming scenes in that movie inspired the worldwide wet T-shirt craze, and Newsweek magazine declared her "the most beautiful film actress of all time". However, she hated the wet T-shirt scenes because she felt exploited. At the time of filming she was not told that the filmmakers would shoot the scenes in such a provocative way, and she felt tricked.
-Jacqueline has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards. The first time was for the 1969 award for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture - Female for her appearance in "The Sweet Ride" (Michael Sarrazin was also nominated in the corresponding male category).
-She was nominated for the 1979 award in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for "Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?".
Her performance in "Under the Volcano" earned her a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role - Motion Picture in 1985. She co-hosted (with Pierce Brosnan) the Golden Globes, in 1986, I believe.
She was nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for her work in "Joan of Arc".
-Favorite films: Brief Encounter (1945), Splendor in the Grass (1961).
-Favorite actresses: Jeanne Moreau, Jessica Lange
-Favorite actors: Marlon Brando, Anthony Hopkins, Montgomery Clift
-She has spoken publicly about at least five long-term romantic involvements: Michael Sarrazin, Victor Drai, Alexander Godunov, Vincent Perez, and, most recently, Emin Boztepe.
-She met Michael Sarrazin in 1968, making "The Sweet Ride". They soon moved in together. They originally lived in a cottage that had started out as a packing crate for a piano. They later starred together in "Believe in Me" (and bought a more substantial house). They went their separate ways in 1974.
-Jacqueline then began a relationship with Victor Drai. He ran a clothing company in Paris. Their involvement lasted several years, before they parted. Drai went on to produce several movies in Hollywood.
-In 1981, Jacqueline met Alexander Godunov, who had defected from Russia in 1979. Their relationship lasted into the mid-1980's, and they appeared together on the cover of People magazine. Godunov gave up ballet for acting, but they split up around 1986. Godunov died in 1995.
-While filming 1987's "Le Maison de Jade", Jacqueline became romantically involved with her co-star, Vincent Perez. This relationship lasted a few years, until the frequent long-distance separations brought it to an end.
-Since 1997, Jacqueline has often been seen and photographed with Emin Boztepe, a martial arts instructor. The photo at left is from a 1997 post-Oscar party. They parted in 2005.
